Mr. Lukanich represents individuals in civil disputes arising from commercial, professional or personal relationships. These disputes include claims for breach of contract, fraud and breach of fiduciary duty,shareholder disagreements, mortgage foreclosure (both commercial and residential), and landlord-tenant conflicts. Mr. Lukanich works closely with his clients to evaluate the merits of any claims or defenses and to discern, develop and implement the most effective case strategies for resolving the dispute. Based on the needs and objectives of his client, Mr. Lukanich will determine if litigation can be avoided through negotiation and settlement. If it cannot, Mr. Lukanich will rely on over 30 years of litigation experience to achieve a favorable disposition for his client in an expeditious and cost effective manner.CONSTRUCTION LAW
Mr. Lukanich has extensive experience in all facets of construction litigation, having represented owners, contractors, subcontractors, and sureties in connection with a variety of private and public projects in both state and federal courts. A substantial portion of Mr. Lukanich's practice involves the prosecution of contractor claims, including change order disputes and delay claims, and the collection of construction receivables through mechanic’s liens, payment bond claims and civil litigation.
Mr. Lukanich also has extensive experience in the drafting, negotiation and interpretation of construction contracts. He prefers to take an active role in the negotiation of the contract with the goal of anticipating potential issues in order to avoid disputes during the course of the project.
Mr. Lukanich represents clients in Cook, DuPage, Will, Lake, McHenry and Kendall counties, and in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.CRIMINAL LAW
Mr. Lukanich began his legal career in 1981 as an assistant state’s attorney with the Cook County State’s Attorney. As an assistant state’s attorney, he prosecuted hundreds of cases, from thefts to murders.
Since leaving the State’s Attorney’s Office in 1990, Mr. Lukanich has defended numerous individuals in a wide variety of criminal matters, during both the investigation stage and after the filing of formal charges. As a former prosecutor, Mr. Lukanich as significant insight as to the priorities, strategies and tactics of law enforcement. He has represented numerous clients charged with criminal offenses, including fraud, embezzlement, bribery, narcotics trafficking, homicide and arson in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and in the Circuit Courts of Cook, Will, Lake, DuPage, Kane, DeKalb and Henry Counties. Mr. Lukanich also represents individuals in post-conviction proceedings and on appeal of their criminal convictions before the Illinois Appellate and Supreme Courts.
